Sulphur has a unique cosmic origin story. As the 10th most abundant element in the universe, sulphur was created in the silicon-burning shells of massive stars just before they exploded as supernovas. This makes sulphur younger and more volatile than iron!
In the final hours of massive stars, oxygen nuclei fuse to create sulphur (S-32) at temperatures exceeding 1 billion degrees! When these stars exploded as supernovas, they scattered sulphur atoms across the cosmos, along with a distinctive yellow glow from sulphur emissions.
Fun fact: The sulphur in your VARTISOL was created in the last violent moments of a dying star, traveled billions of kilometers through space, and eventually became part of the dust cloud that formed our solar system 4.5 billion years ago!
